«According to Spandel, a portfolio may be defined as "a purposeful collection of self-selected work that, together with personal reflection, tells the story of who a student is now and who she or he is becoming"»

«The definition helps us to understand how a portfolio may act over development and learning: constructing a portfolio forces the pupil to observe the world around him, stimulates him to identify problems and questions supported on the observations made, gives him the opportunity to formulate his/her own opinions about lots of relevant themes in the social context, as well as the motive to intervene thoughtfully and act in order to change what's wrong.»
